HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! (and New Year's celebration news for our first day back in 2016)

A big thank you to all of our families for everything that you have done this year! Thank you for your donations, for your kind words and for our gifts for Christmas.

Have a fabulous holiday, Merry Christmas and be safe!

Monday January 4th:
Please note that we will be having a mini New Year's Celebration on Monday afternoon!

If your child has "tooters" or a New Year's Eve hat to bring in, we would love for them to do so.
We would also gladly accept healthy/nutritious snacks like fruit, veggies, popcorn etc.

Merry Christmas everyone!

School Bus Safety!

We had school bus safety on Thursday and we learned a lot about it. Please ask your child what they learned and what they remember.

1) Danger zone=within 10 steps around the bus
2) Always walk across the street when the crossing guard or the bus driver says that it is safe
3) Stay seated on your bottom when riding on the bus
4) Say hello/goodbye to the driver, but never stand and chat while the bus is in motion
5) Be at your bus stop 5-10 minutes before your pick up time
6) Walk up and down the stairs and use the hand rail.

Sugar cookies...done!

Today your children all had a chance to mix, measure, pour and spoon sugar cookies or chocolate chip cookies. We baked our red and green sugar cookies, however, we didn't have time to cook up our chocolate chip batch. We will bake the dough tomorrow!

Please check your child's zippie tonight as they each got a cookie to take home with them.

Thank you for your donations of butter, flour, sugar, decorations, chocolate chips, beaters and bowls. We hope that you got your beaters and bowls back tonight. If there is something missing, please let us know and we will get it to you.

See you at the concert tomorrow morning!

Mrs. S. Porto and Mrs. R. Kimberley :)

Concert Thursday at 9:30am!

Please remember that tomorrow at 9:30am we will be having our Christmas concert. If your child has something red, green or "space related" to wear, please dress them in the morning with these items. If your child has a Santa hat or reindeer antlers, we would love for you to send those in with them. Please meet us in the gym at 9:30 and not in the classroom.

We can't wait to share or holiday and space songs with you.

See you tomorrow!

Sick child

Dear Families,

It has come to our attention that several children are coming to school ill. If your child is under the weather, we urge you to keep them home. Illnesses spread quickly and we are all prone to catching what your little one has.

If your child has a fever or has thrown up, please think about keeping them home for at least 24 hours after the fever has broken.

We will be more diligent and we will be calling home if we feel like your child is not up for a full day due to illness.

A day or two of Kindergarten missed is harmless.

Thank you for your understanding,
Mrs. Porto and Mrs. Kimberley

In need of a parent volunteer or two for Wednesday morning baking.

Dear Parents,
We are in need of one or two parent/grandparent volunteers to help lead some baking activities. If you have an easy to bake cookie that you would like to share with a group of 6-10 children, we would love for you to lead a group.

We are also in need of a few large bowls and an electric beater.

Our baking period starts at around 11:20am and will go until around 12:30pm. Please message us here or in the communication book.

Thank you,
Sylvia Porto :)

Look who has arrived in our classroom!

This morning there was a special delivery to our Purple room! Mr. H rushed in to let us know that there was a package from the North Pole! The package was frozen and there was a lovely letter from Santa!

Please ask your child the following:
1) What was delivered to your class this morning?
2) How did the package feel?
3) What did the letter say?
4) What is his name?

We now have Elf Journals to work on (literacy activities) and we will have some special activities going on over the next few weeks.

Cheers,
Mrs. K and Mrs. P

Dear Parents,
With the cold weather upon us, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate clothing. Please also remember to label everything as we have several items in our lost and found without names (and our kids do not recognize any of them).

You will notice the "Space Song" sheet has gone home with your child today. Please help them to practice this for our concert coming up on December 10th (more details to follow).

A notice that our Purple Room has been selected to help build a super hero gift basket also went home today. Please help us to make it a great one, by providing items that go with this theme. Examples are, capes, masks, super hero colouring books, crafting items etc. These are due by December 4th.

Thank you for all of your help to make the Purple Room the best that it can be!

Soup making in the morning, soup tasting in the afternoon!

We washed, we chopped, we poured and sprinkled.
We made a plan, we read "Stone Soup", we tasted and we even had seconds.

Our class had a blast planning our two soups, creating, tasting and writing about our soups.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this such a great "soup" day. Soup making was easy and fun...especially with all of the help and cooperation.

Please ask your little one about the day.
Questions to prompt:
1) What did you do today?
2) What story did you listen to?
3) What did you put into the soup?
4) What did you think about the soup?
5) Did you try both? If so, which one did you like best?

Have a great Wednesday and we will see you all tomorrow.
Mrs. Porto and Mrs. Kimberley :)

Today we did so much...

Table activities consisted of: Language soup activity, math/shape match, letter puzzle match, snap cube pattern making.

During carpet time: A few of our girls built a stage to have a ballet rehearsal on. Some of our boys decided to make a Lego city.

Please ask your child what they did during table top activities and during carpet play today.

NOTE: Friday is our day of Pink, please have your child wear pink to recognize anti-bullying.

We are making soup next week!

Today we read the story "Surprise Soup". The class enjoyed discussing what they could use to make their own soup.

Mrs. Kimberley and I talked about making our own soup next week with our Purple Room. We are going to make "Stone Soup" and read the story!

What we need from each student is one item that they think belong in soup:

ie,, carrots, potatoes, beans, vegetable broth, chicken broth, pasta/noodles, crackers, celery, corn, tomatoes, onions, meatballs etc.

Please bring in your one item by Tuesday so we can make it on Wednesday!

This is going to be so much fun!

Building and playing as a group.

Our class is playing on the carpet together here. Rhys and Zach have made a space ship, a few minutes earlier they said it was a train. Who knows what it was after the picture was taken :)

Keith, Steven and Adam (at the back) are playing with waffle blocks and cars. They seem to like building cars that carry cars.

Laurena, Avery, Elisha and Artin (bottom) are playing with blocks and animals.

Jungle Sport, clothing and a big thank you...

Please remember that next week we will be having Jungle Sport. Your child should have dry running shoes every day next week (we do not know our Jungle Sport official days as of yet). If you would like for your child to use his/her own helmet, please send it in with the name on it.

We are finding that several of our children do not recognize their own clothing yet. Please make sure that everything is labeled as we have several items that are unclaimed.

Thank you to Mrs. Stewart for volunteering each Friday morning. We appreciate your help and we enjoy having you in!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Planet Home Work This Week!

We hope that you all had a great long weekend!

Please go to Youtube.com and type in "Planet Songs for kids". We are learning all about the planets for our first inquiry. These will help your child to learn some interesting facts about each one. We have been learning them in class and would love for you to join in with your child's learning.

This week is all about Mercury! If you have any books or information about Mercury, please send it in!

We are also in need of a few items this week:
1) small zip-lock bags
2) flour

Mrs. K and Mrs. P

A few notes!

Dear Parents,

A few messages:

1) Please insure that when dropping your child off in the morning, you stay on the other side of the gate. It can be very confusing and disruptive for the classes when parents are coming inside. If you are more than a few minutes late, please walk with your little one to the office and we will have our friends come to get them.

2) Please feel free to use our blog as a comment board, for general questions and comments. We really love getting your input.

3) If you are able to send in a WARMER change of clothing next week, please do so. We have a few children who have shorts and t-shirts as their extra change of clothing...this may be a bit too chilly.

4) We are in need of more small ziploc baggies.

5) Have a great long weekend and enjoy your family time!

Mrs. P and Mrs. K

Liam's Birthday!

Today we celebrated Liam's fourth birthday! Liam and his family were kind enough to bring in peanut free cupcakes, which we all enjoyed together. Thank you Liam! Enjoy your special day.

Space food was a blast!

Thank you to all of our parents who helped us with the space food activity by bringing in a "space" item.
We had 4 tables set up:
1) Wow butter and honey sandwiches
2) Fruit mash and straw
3) Fruit cup and straw
4) Apple sauce and straw

Ask your child what they liked best, what is interesting about how they eat in space and who our special visitor was!

The FDK Team

Reading Buddies and Turkey Time!

We want to thank Mrs. V and her grade 3/4 class for spending a good hour with us yesterday. Your child should be coming home with a turkey that they made with the help of their Reading Buddy. Ask them all about this special time.

Thanks Mrs. V!
